What’s going on in the South? Can anybody explain this discrepancy? I don’t think it’s that people in the South are simply dumb. And they presumably have access to the same media outlets the rest of the country has. What’s going on?

This is the segment of society that takes Fox News for the gospel, believes Saddam Hussein had ties to Al Qaeda, argues in favor of “global cooling,” believes the Ten Commandments are in the Constitution, and continues to make the argument that abstinence-only sex education works despite having the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the country. Guys, I’m from Texas and in a lot of respects, I’m very proud to be Southern, but god bless their little hearts, Southerners will believe pretty much anything the wingnuts say, no matter how far out in Cuckoosville that shit is. That’s just the way it is.
